Mathematics

What do I need mathematics for?

Today’s business economists often use mathematical models to describe reality in a logical way. The language of mathematics provides powerful tools (formulas, graphs, concepts like functions) to describe and explore such models. Moreover, by learning this language you develop skills in recognizing structure, systematic problem-solving, checking the plausibility of an obtained result. You will further use mathematical concepts and methods in courses like statistics, economics, financial algebra and econometrics.

Can I become successful in mathematics?

HUBrussel offers a range of tools to help you develop your mathematics skills. Before the beginning of the academic year HUBrussel organises a brushing up course and an assessment test (obligatory for most students). Different tracks (slow or fast) give you the opportunity to study at your pace. Both tracks cover the same material, tests and exams, but in the slow track you get more classes and tutorials.

Even though you receive a lot of support at HUBrussel, you need a sound basis in mathematics before you start the programme in order to be successful in the programme. Consult our overview of the minimum requirements to see which mathematical knowledge and skills you nee. Using our online tests you can find out yourself whether or not you are well prepared for mathematics.

Brushing up course and assessment test

The brushing up course will take place from Monday 10 till Friday 14 September 2012.  One full week during which you will review the basics necessary to start the courses will be followed by an assessment test on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 September 2012.  On Tuesday 18 or Wednesday 19 September 2012 you will get feedback on your progress.
