Brussels is located in the centre of Belgium. In fact, the name Brussels refers to the Brussels Capital Region, which consists of 19 municipalities each with their own town hall, mayor and council, their own police force and social services. The official name for the main municipality of the Brussels Capital Region is the City of Brussels (Bruxelles-Ville or Ville de Bruxelles in French, de Stad Brussel in Dutch).

Brussels, ‘the Capital of Europe’, hosts the headquarters of several important European and international institutions like the European Commission, the European Parliament and NATO. Many international firms have their hubs in Belgium’s capital as well.
