Libraries & Bookshops
The Royal Library Albert I or Albertina is Belgium’s National Library. In this library all books, magazines, pamphlets, etc. published in Belgium since independence, are registered, put into catalogues and preserved. Apart from these the library contains more than 35,000 precious volumes, a rich collection of prints, coins, medals, manuscripts, maps, etc. Books and documents can be consulted in the library only.
There are a number of French public libraries and Flemish public libraries in the Brussels-Capital Region.
Since Brussels is the beating heart of Europe, you can find a variety of international bookshops providing books in many different languages. For books in all EU languages, visit FNAC, an international bookshop and media centre (City 2 Shopping, Nieuwstraat, 1000 Brussels). The famous English bookshop Waterstone’s is also worth a visit.
