Work Permit C

Category C work permits are issued for a limited period of a maximum of one year and are valid for all employers and all salaried professionals throughout Belgium.

The duration of the work permit can be extended.

They are granted to those staying in the country temporarily:

• applicant refugees whose asylum application is admissible and who are authorized to stay in the country while their dossier is being examined.
• those in possession of a declaration of arrival or a Certificate of Registration with the Register of Foreigners issued in the context of measures in the fight against trafficking in human beings.
• foreign citizens authorized to stay, whose authorisation may be prolonged provided they have employment.
• foreign nationals invoking the right of families to remain together while applications are being examined.
• legal students in Belgium, in full-time education, for jobs that do not exceed 20 hours per week outside the school holidays.

Tips

• It takes at least 3 months to obtain your work permit, so start your application early enough.
• An extension of a work permit takes at least one month.
