This research centre carries out practice-based research, including project-based scientific research (Projectmatig wetenschappelijk onderzoek or PWO) such as defined by the 13 July 1994 decree on the institutes of higher education and the PWO framework regulations of the K.U.Leuven Associatie. Practice-based research is defined in the text: “Practice-based research in professional higher education” (Praktijk-gebaseerd onderzoek in het professioneel hoger onderwijs): A contribution to innovation and professional awareness” (Een bijdrage aan innovatie en beroepsbewustzijn), approved by the board of directors of the K.U.Leuven Associatieon 19 May 2006. It deals with activities related to the design and development of new products, services, methods and methodologies, (policy) measures and structures that puts the translation and integration of theoretical knowledge into concrete applications or new contexts on the centre stage. It also deals with research activities relating to the implementation, evaluation, and testing of all those aspects.
The research centre implements its research policy which focuses on themes relevant to at least one of the professional Bachelor programmes at HUBRussel and/or on themes that offer a surplus value to the professional field or an aspect of society related to at least one of the programmes organised by the different schools in the Professional Education Division. The research projects may be clustered around the themes of education, disadvantaged groups, inclusion, and/or Brussels.
The centre aims to transfer as much research knowledge as possible to the professional field and to the different course programmes at HUBrussel. It also aims at involving the professional field, the lecturers, and the students in the research projects as much as possible.
