Registration at the commune

Within 8 days after your arrival, you should present yourself also at the City Foreigners' Registration Office of the commune where you are staying in order to get a residence permit. This is very important as it will be your proof of legal residence in Belgium. In order to fulfill this formality, you have to make an appointment with the City Foreigners' Registration Office. Take a look at the website of Brussels Capital Region to have correct contact information. The things you will be asked to bring are:

  • a certificate of enrolment delivered by HUB
  • a rental agreement to prove that you reside in a Belgian commune
  • banking information: name and full address of the account holder, account number, name and full address of the bank, international bank sorting code if applicable

After you have reported to the City Foreigners' Registration Office and have paid a small fee, a police officer will come and visit you to confirm your residence.  Only after this you will receive a residence permit for the length of your stay in Belgium.
