Focus
We live in a complex global world. Ecological, social, economical and financial problems in North and South are intimately intertwined. Sustainable solutions depend on the ability to take diverse interests of stakeholders from business, government and civil society into account. These actors belong to different communities of practice and they use different discourses. But they are highly interdependent to reach their goals. Each actor tends to look at problems from the perspective of his own background, education, experiences and interests and to develop solutions without considering the implications for the other stakeholders.
Multi-actor collaboration is a promising new approach to face such complex problems. However, actors often lack the competencies to put this collaboration into practice. They need to learn to see differences as opportunities for sustainability, as opposed to viewing differences as obstacles.
The training course is focused on social process knowledge and skills to facilitate multi-actor collaboration. This know-how can be applied in local and regional initiatives related to sustainable resources management, such as irrigation and drinking water, nature conservation, catchment management, mining conflicts, forestation, etc.
The course is aimed at participants from the South to stimulate multi-actor collaboration in development cooperation. We also welcome participants from the North as the multi-actor focus is highly relevant here as well and the exchange of experiences between participants from the North and the South has mutually enriching effects.
